PURE BS SUMMARY: How do you get through tough times?
I was thinking about this quote as I was watching a documentary about a comedian dealing with cancer.
Tough times don’t last. Tough people do.
(And, Tig Notaro definitely seems like a tough cookie.)
That’s the thing about tough times. They feel like they last forever when you’re in the middle of the shit storm. But, after you make it through, you can look back and see the storm passing.
Logically, I know that it doesn’t rain forever, and that eventually the sun does shine, and you get a pretty, metaphorical rainbow at the end.
But, sometimes it’s tough to remember that when you have bills to pay, and the rent is due, and you’re in between jobs, and your kid needs braces and you don’t have insurance. Sometimes, it feels like it’s going to be tough forever.
Someone once told me that suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.
And, that’s kind of the problem with the quote: “Tough times never last, but tough people do.”
- Well, how do I become a tough person to get through these tough times?
- If I can’t get through these tough times, am I not tough enough (yet)?
- Why do I have to go through tough times, anyway?
So, I think that’s partly what this site is about. Finding other solutions and strategies to get through tough times.
I made this picture using some free photo and Adobe Spark Post. I wanted to capture that idea that a storm doesn’t last forever, or sometimes things feel darker than they actually are, and that’s when the world feels toughest.
But view the world with a different lens, and the problems seem a little more manageable?
Maybe I need to redo the picture with a proverbial rainbow somewhere.
